Yes. All foreign visitors are required to obtain a Zanzibar Driver's Permit in order to legally drive a car or scooter on the island. Even if you have an international driving license, the local permit is still mandatory by law. Don’t worry — King Car Rental can help! We assist all our customers in obtaining the Zanzibar driving permit quickly and hassle-free. All we need is a copy of your valid driver’s license and passport. The process usually takes less than 30 minutes.

08. What is your fuel policy?
At King Car Rental, our fuel policy is "Same-to-Same." This means the fuel level at the time of pickup should be the same when you return the vehicle. 🚗 Example: If you receive the car with a half tank, you should return it with a half tank. Important Notes: If the car is returned with less fuel, a refill fee will be charged. If it’s returned with more fuel, we do not offer refunds for the extra amount. All our vehicles come with a full tank whenever possible, to make your trip easier.
09. Can I add additional drivers to my rental agreement?
Yes, absolutely! At King Car Rental, you can add one or more additional drivers to your rental agreement, as long as they meet our standard rental requirements. Requirements for additional drivers: Must present a valid driver’s license Must be at least 18 years old Must also obtain a Zanzibar Driving Permit (we can help with this) Is there an extra charge? In most cases, yes, a small fee applies per additional driver to cover insurance and administrative costs. The exact amount will be shown during booking or explained at pickup. Adding an extra driver is a great option for shared road trips and longer stays!
10. What happens if I return the car late?
If you return the car later than the agreed time, a late return fee may apply. Grace Period: We offer a 1-hour grace period after your scheduled return time. If you return the vehicle within that time, there’s no extra charge. After the Grace Period: 1–3 hours late: A partial day fee may apply. More than 3 hours late: You may be charged for an additional full day. Tip: If you need to extend your rental, just contact us in advance — we’re happy to help adjust your booking based on availability.
